Redesign of the conference room at Hamburger Kunsthalle

Redesign of the conference room at Hamburger Kunsthalle

Through this project I redesigned the conference room at Hamburger Kunsthalle, together with its adjacent spaces, using existing architectural elements as foundation. Wood panels, designed in the style of Arts and Crafts, served as the base for a modern reinterpretation. Arts and Crafts were further reflected through the inclusion of geometric patterns and contemporary, custom-made furniture design. The concept drew inspiration from geometric abstractions of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, while also paying tribute to bold experimentation of the Memphis Group.

My goal was to achieve a flexible space that balances formality with informality, serving both as a meeting area and a lounge for smaller gatherings. Modular furniture reflects spatial design adaptability, with pieces either custom-made to honor handcrafting principles of the Arts and Crafts movement, or sourced from local firms. This thoughtful combination of historical references and modern functionality creates a multifunctional, versatile and inviting environment.
